Maintenance and installations – Your guide to bunded fuel tanks.

The Triscan brand was established in 1984, quickly becoming the UK’s largest manufacturer and supplier of fuel management systems.

With our history and extensive customer base, it was a natural evolution to begin providing tank gauges, pumps, tanks and tank services within the commercial sector in our effort to be the “one stop solution” for refuelling needs. This includes new installations, maintenance packages and upgrades of your current equipment.

Maintenance

For many successful businesses running a fleet of vehicles, making sure your fuel tank is clean may not be top of your busy agenda. However, over time the tank can become contaminated or degraded.

Your tank is an essential part of fuelling your business and it is important to check it over at least once a year. Our highly trained response team can help with service and repairs and making sure your tank is clean.

Our maintenance packages include a visual inspection of the general condition of the tank, condition of pipework, fill points, tank gauges and alarm. Our specially trained engineers also inspect the outer bund for water or fuel penetration.

Upgrades and improvements

If you do need an upgrade then we can find a cost-effective solution for your site. All of the Triscan Group’s Bunded Fuel Tanks have been constructed from mild steel for safety, robustness and longevity of life, while advanced manufacturing techniques ensure the bunded tanks are economical and competitive. Triscan works closely with our customers to create a layout that provides maximum efficiency for fuelling of vehicles.

What are bunded fuel tanks?

The bund is the catchment area around your fuel tank. Its purpose is to capture any leakage caused by a tank failure or an overfill of fuel. Traditional bunds are open and of brick construction. These often fill up with rainwater and other debris as well as becoming porous over time and leaking into the ground. Rainwater in this type of bund is classed as contaminated waste and should be disposed of under contaminated waste guidelines which can be costly.

New tanks are self-bunded or double skinned. These tanks can be located on a hard standing without further requirement for building a wall around them. This means the fuel tank is inside a second tank and not exposed to the atmosphere. This bund cannot fill with rainwater or other debris and overfill will be routed into the bund via an internal breather. The outer tank has a capacity of 110% of the inner tank, for example, a 50,000 Litre tank has a bund of 55,000 Litres.

Bunded Fuel Tanks are a more financially sound investment than underground tanks. In addition to them having a resale value, they can also be relocated between sites for long-term use.
